White Shark Released

Another one bites the... surfer? I hope not. :(

The Monterey Bay Aquarium is releasing this juvenile white shark after 162 days in their Outer Bay Exhibit. This was the third baby white shark to “visit” the Aquarium. He arrived the same day a surfer was attacked at Marina State Beach, who was saved by dolphins I hear! I’m so glad I was able to see the baby shark several times. White sharks behave so much differently than any other shark. They are fascinating!

My videos of the shark can be found here and here.

Great White Shark

The Monterey Bay Aquarium has another white shark. He was caught off the coast of California, and transferred to Monterey on August 31. The baby shark is less than a year old, is 5’8" long and weighs 104 pounds. The last white shark was kept at the Aquarium for 198 days, then had to be released because she started killing the other sharks. The other sharks and fish in this tank are scared of the new shark. The bubbles are to keep them from swimming into the glass.

He won’t actually be a Great White until he is full grown. ;)
